Appreciating Both KS and MO FBO's....
Since September is Aviation Appreciation Month in Kansas, I thought I'd write about a local landmark just a few miles north of Flight Schedule Pro Offices, even though it's situated on the Missouri side of the state line (FSP is on the Kansas side). The Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport was the City's first airport and it's still one of the City's busiest. Dedicated by Charles Lindbergh in 1927, the airport is home to a fantastic air show which usually takes place every August (yes, we got hit by the sequester this year) and the show is currently scheduled to resume in August, 2014.
Situated on 695 acres (with a recent upgrade to its runways), the "Downtown Airport", as its known, attracts many corporate, charter and recreational flyers. Up to 700 aircraft per day take off or land at the airport, including everything from single-engine propeller aircraft to sleek corporate jets. The airport, and its control tower, are open 24 hours a day and are consistently ranked highly by private and corporate pilots. FBO's service nearly 300 based aircraft. They offer fuel, full maintenance, rentals, sales and flight training. Be sure to check out ATD Flight Systems, http://www.atdflightsystems.com/, situated on the west side of the airport, a longtime FSP client.
For more information about the Downtown Airport, see http://www.flymkc.com/. It's a convenient refueling stop for air travelers due to its central geographic location.
