Are potential students searching the Internet to learn more about flight training? Of course they are! Maybe you're still wondering how to convert your website into a lead generating, customer capturing machine. If so, understanding PageRank is a good start.
On occasion, I consult with people on how they can use Internet Marketing to attract more customers. After all, that's how we've built Flight Schedule Pro over the past 10 years. (Flight Schedule Pro's website now gets over 75,000 unique visitors each month)
The meetings usually start with me asking, "What do you know about search engines?".
When it comes to the Web, Google's PageRank is powerful. How it's calculated is complex, but what you need to know about it's really simple. Google's PageRank is how important Google thinks a web page is. According to Google:
"PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages [important]"
Let's keep it simple. If my web pages are ranked higher by search engines, then my pages will list closer to the top in the search results. If I'm higher in the results, I should get more traffic to my website.
If PageRank has so much to do with links to my web pages, an important thing to ask yourself is this: "How can I get other important websites to link to mine?"
